How to play new roulette games

New roulette games keep the wheel and the standard bets and add something on top: random multipliers, extra balls or faster spins. The add-on is paid for somewhere, usually by a lower straight-up payout or a separate fee.

Read each game's help screen before you play. The payouts and RTP are listed there.

A new roulette game is a table that keeps the standard wheel and adds one feature. The feature may be a multiplier draw, a second ball or a machine-spun wheel. The wheel and the standard bets stay the same, so a player who knows one table can sit down at another.

This guide explains how a round runs, what each add-on changes in the payout, and what the house edge is. It also shows how to set a budget before the first spin, because the faster formats cost more per hour at the same stake.

What stays the same

European wheels have 37 pockets (0 to 36) and a 2.70% edge on standard bets. Inside bets (straight, split, street, corner) and outside bets (red or black, odd or even, dozens, columns) work as on any table, and bets close when the dealer or timer says so.

Inside bets cover one to six numbers and pay more when they win. A straight-up bet on one number pays 35:1. A split bet on two adjacent numbers pays 17:1. Outside bets cover large groups of numbers and pay less. An even-money bet on red or black pays 1:1.

How a round of new roulette works

A round of roulette has three stages: betting, spin and payout. The betting stage lasts until the dealer or timer closes the table. The spin stage releases the ball onto a wheel that turns the other way. The payout stage removes losing chips and pays winning bets at the odds for each bet type.

New roulette games keep these three stages and change what happens inside them. Lightning Roulette adds a multiplier draw before the spin. Dual-Ball Roulette adds a second ball during the spin. Auto-roulette removes the dealer and shortens every stage.

Roulette tables at new casinos run either on a live stream or on a software wheel. A live table uses a physical wheel and a studio dealer. A software wheel uses a random number generator. Our new live casinos page covers operators that offer studio-streamed tables.

Lightning Roulette payouts and multipliers

Lightning Roulette pays less on a plain straight-up bet than a standard table does. A standard table pays 35:1 on a straight-up bet. Lightning Roulette pays 29:1 on a straight-up bet without a multiplier. The lower base payout funds the multipliers.

A multiplier applies only to a straight-up bet on a lucky number. The game draws the lucky numbers before each spin. The multiplier ranges from 50x to 500x. A bet on a number that was not drawn pays 29:1 as normal.

Lightning Roulette makes the result more uneven than a standard table. Most winning straight-ups pay less than the standard payout, and a few pay far more. A player who values frequent small returns may prefer a table with no multipliers.

House edge on new roulette variants

A single-zero wheel has a house edge of 2.7% on every bet. A double-zero wheel has a house edge of 5.26% on every bet except the first five. The extra pocket on the double-zero wheel causes the higher figure.

The house edge describes the long-run cost of play, not the result of one session. Every standard bet on a single-zero wheel carries the same edge, so a split bet costs no more than a red or black bet. The only difference is how often the bet wins and how large the win is.

New roulette games add features that change the payout structure but not the wheel. The help screen of each game states the RTP and the payout for every bet. The same percentage applies per spin at any stake, so a faster game spins more often and costs more per hour. Our guide to RTP at new online casinos explains how to read these figures.

Bankroll

  • Set a session budget and a flat stake.
  • Keep any side bets in a separate, smaller budget.
  • Remember that faster formats cost more per hour.
  • Betting systems do not change the edge.

A flat stake keeps the cost of each spin predictable. A session budget caps the total cost of the visit. A separate side-bet budget stops a multiplier or an extra ball from draining the main budget. Our tips for table games apply to roulette in the same way.

Playing a new roulette game for the first time

Open the game in demo mode first, if the casino offers it. Read the paytable and the list of bets before the first real spin. Place one small bet to learn the timer and the chip controls. Then move to a normal stake.

Questions

New roulette games: questions

Do multipliers affect the 35:1 payout?

Yes. In Lightning Roulette a straight-up without a multiplier pays 29:1.

Can I place outside bets in Lightning Roulette?

Yes. Outside bets pay as usual and do not get multipliers.

Are multipliers truly random?

They are drawn by a tested random number generator.

What is the house edge on new roulette games?

Around 2.7% to 3% on most European-wheel variants; check the help screen.

Is a faster roulette game worse?

Per hour, it costs more at the same stake.

How does a round of a new roulette game work?

A round has a betting stage, a spin and a payout stage. The betting stage ends when the dealer or timer closes the table. The new feature of the game, such as a multiplier draw or a second ball, is added inside one of these stages. The help screen of each game lists the exact order.

Who makes Lightning Roulette?

Evolution makes Lightning Roulette. Evolution builds its live tables in studios and streams them to the casino lobby. The studio also produces the multiplier draw that happens before each spin. Our top new games from Evolution page covers other recent releases from the same studio.
